唐代：孟郊
击石乃有火，不击元无烟。
译文：只有击打石头，才会有火花；如果不击打，连一点儿烟也不冒出。
注释：乃：才。元：原本、本来。
人学始知道，不学非自然。
译文：人也是这样，只有通过学习，才能掌握知识；如果不学习，知识不会从天上掉下来。
注释：始：方才。道：事物的法则、规律。这里指各种知识。非：不是。自然：天然。
万事须己运，他得非我贤。
译文：任何事情必须自己去实践，别人得到的知识不能代替自己的才能。
注释：运：运用。贤：才能。
青春须早为，岂能长少年。
译文：青春年少时期就应趁早努力，一个人难道能够永远都是“少年”吗？
注释：青春：指人的青年时期。岂：难道。长：长期。

孟郊，(751～814)，唐代诗人。字东野。汉族，湖州武康（今浙江德清）人，祖籍平昌（今山东临邑东北），先世居洛阳（今属河南）。唐代著名诗人。现存诗歌500多首，以短篇的五言古诗最多，代表作有《游子吟》。有“诗囚”之称，又与贾岛齐名，人称“郊寒岛瘦”。元和九年，在阌乡(今河南灵宝)因病去世。张籍私谥为贞曜先生。
