眉州眉山人，徙居邵武，字伯起，号斯庵。任伯雨曾孙。孝宗淳熙二年进士。曾从朱熹学，熹称为开济士。宁宗开禧初，为礼部尚书，奏为周敦颐、程颢、程颐赐谥。进端明殿学士、签书枢密院事兼权参知政事，寻提举临安洞霄宫。卒谥宣献。
