吴宗旦，宜兴（今属江苏）人。高宗绍兴三十年（一一六○）进士（清嘉庆《宜兴县志》卷七）。孝宗乾道七年（一一七一），除大理评事（《宋会要辑稿》选举二○之二一）。淳熙元年（一一七四），知开州。八年，入为刑部员外郎（同上书选举二二之四）。十年，迁大理少卿（同上书职官二四之三六）。光宗绍熙中出为广西提刑、江西提刑。宁宗庆元元年（一一九○）召为中书舍人兼侍讲。三年，以刑部侍郎兼直学士院。今录诗三首。
