踯躅花开红照水，鹧鸪飞绕青山觜。行人经岁始归来，千万里，错相倚，懊恼天仙应有以。
天仙子·踯躅花开红照水鉴赏
这首词与《天仙子·晴野鹭鸶飞一只》一样，也是就题发挥，咏刘郎在天台山遇神女的事。据《神仙传》和《续齐谐记》载，汉明帝永平时，剡县有刘晨、阮肇二人人天台山采药，迷失道路，忽见山头有一颗桃树，共取食之，下山，得到涧水，又饮之。行至山后，见有一杯随水流出，上有胡麻饭屑。二人过水行一里左右，又越过一山，出大溪，见二女颜容绝妙，唤刘、阮二人姓名，好像旧时相识，并问：“郎等来何晚也！”因邀还家，床帐帷幔，非世所有。又有数仙客，拿三五个桃来，说：“来庆女婿。”各出乐器作乐，二人就于女家住宿，行夫妻之礼，住了半年，天气和暖，常如春二、三月。常闻百鸟啼鸣，求归心切。女子说：“罪根未灭，使君等如此。”于是送刘、阮从山洞口去。到家，乡里怪异，经查寻，世上已是他们第七代子孙。二人于是又想回返女家，寻山路，不获，迷归。至太康八年，还不知二人下落。唐五代词以《天仙子》为词牌的作品多用刘阮事，托意仙缘，实写人情。与《天仙子·晴野鹭鸶飞一只》不同的是，此词写天人相隔，仙人的恼恨与世人全同。
此词“踯躅花开红照水”写环境，以“鹧鸪飞绕青山觜”写刘阮经岁而归人间的依依之情。最后不写刘阮恼恨不能复返，却从天仙懊恨人神千里之遥，不复再见，更觉深透一层。全词句丽而意清，语真而情挚。

皇甫松，字子奇，自号檀栾子，睦州新安（今浙江淳安）人。他是工部侍郎皇甫湜之子，宰相牛僧孺之外甥。《新唐书·艺文志》著录皇甫松《醉乡日月》3卷。其词今存20余首，见于《花间集》、《唐五代词》。事迹见《历代诗馀》。 今有王国维辑《檀栾子词》一卷。
