湔裙独上小渔矶，袜罗微溅春泥。一篙生绿画桥低，昨夜前溪。
回首楝花风急，催归暮雨霏霏。扑天香絮拥凄迷，南北东西。
画堂春·湔裙独上小渔矶鉴赏
这阕小词，可以说是一幅情景交融的暮春归舟图，只是其中漾着的意绪，却分外勾人。
词的主体，是船上的人。但船上却只以“一篙”隐过，而通阕词则皆莫不是舟中之“人”眼中之所见，以及身心之所感。
春天已快过去了；楝花风吹得这急。“楝花风”，标明时间已是春末了。因为从“小寒”算起，至第二年的“谷雨”，其中凡八个节气，一百二十日，每五日为一候，每候应以一种届时要开之花，故称为二十四番花信风。其间梅花最先，楝花最后。楝花过后，便已入夏了。此时，他坐在小船上，是在回家去的路上；但人却似乎并不愿意；是以还不时要回过头去看看。但霏霏细雨，夹着漫天杨花，使南北东西，蒙蒙一片。这分明是一个不宜上路的天气，恰如他此时凄迷的心境。如此一来，这“回首”二字就有了着落，也难怪他于“归”不是喜而要着以“催”字了。这催人之风雨，显得极其无情。
分明是“归”，为什么又有这么多的不愿和留恋，诗人没有写，甚至连这心情也只于那“回首”的眼光和“凄迷”的意绪中流露。
这下阕在词的章法上放在最后，在内容上却是词的主体，是最先的存在。然而却在词面上颠倒了次序：将首先出场的却故意隐去，而将之置于下阕补出。
这也难怪，因为主体先自存在，若无感受，自然也就不显主体了。是以词一开头，便是那一个入眼的小小的渔矶上浣衣的女子。“袜罗溅春泥”，固然是系心者未免看得仔细，却也透出了无意中的关爱和怜惜。不知是他想到了他家的她，还是以想到了为之“回首”之处的她。
他还来不及分辨，他乘坐的小舟已冲到了石桥前。所以说是“石桥”的，这是因为板桥是用不着“画”的，能在桥上作浮雕之花纹的，自然是石板架起的拱桥了。昨夜下了一场大雨，溪水涨了，所以石桥也显得“低”了，水急桥低，他得赶紧趴下，于是便打断了他对于那浣衣女子的判断。这一下，人是过桥了，却为读者留下了这一幅谜似的勾人挂念的画。柳絮夹着细雨的迷蒙的溪水上，那溪边的矶头，有浣衣的女子；溪水上正有一只小船，从石桥穿了过去。在这凄迷的空间，也许只有捣衣间断的杵声和着流水的涓涓声，似闹而实静。倒是于这无声的迷蒙之巨大的空间，它所给予人的是一种推不开的怅惘。更妙在它似乎明白，又似乎不明白，只用以构成这一幅淡淡的水粉画，让读者好一个思念。

顾贞观（1637－1714）清代文学家。原名华文，字远平、华峰，亦作华封，号梁汾，江苏无锡人。明末东林党人顾宪成四世孙。康熙五年举人，擢秘书院典籍。曾馆纳兰相国家，与相国子纳兰性德交契，康熙二十三年致仕，读书终老。贞观工诗文，词名尤著，著有《弹指词》、《积书岩集》等。顾贞观与陈维嵩、朱彝尊并称明末清初“词家三绝”，同时又与纳兰性德、曹贞吉共享“京华三绝”之誉。
