观二年，京师旱，蝗虫大起。太宗入苑视禾，见蝗虫，掇数枚而曰：“人以谷为命，而汝食之，是害于百姓。百姓有过，在予一人。尔其有灵，但当蚀我心，无害百姓。”将吞之，左右遽谏曰：“恐诚疾，不可！”太宗：“所冀移灾朕躬，何疾之避！”遂吞之。
唐太宗吞蝗译文及注释
译文
贞观二年，京城长安大旱，蝗虫四起。唐太宗进入园子看粮食（损失情况），看到有蝗虫（在禾苗上面），捉了几只念念有词道：“百姓把粮食当作身家性命，而你吃了它，这对百姓有害。百姓有罪，那些罪过全部在我(身上），你如果真的有灵的话，你就吃我的心吧，不要再害百姓了。”将要吞下去。周围的人忙劝道："恐怕吃了要生病的！不能吃啊！”太宗说道：“我真希望它把给百姓的灾难移给我一个人！为什么要逃避疾病呢？”（说完）马上就把它吞了。

京师：京城，国都、长安。
苑：古代帝王游玩、打猎和躬耕的园林。
掇：抓取。
予：唐太宗自称。
