昔一人嗜酒，忽遇故人，其故人乃悭吝之徒。嗜酒者曰：“望诣贵府一叙，口渴心烦，或茶或酒，求止渴耳。”故人曰：“吾贱寓甚遐，不敢劳烦玉趾。”嗜酒者曰：“谅第二三十里耳。”故人曰：“敝寓甚陋，不堪屈尊。”嗜酒者曰：“但启户就好。”故人曰：“奈器皿不备，无有杯盏。”嗜酒者曰：“吾与尔相知，瓶饮亦好。”故人曰：“且待吾半日，吾访友毕即呼尔同归。”嗜酒者目瞪口呆。

译文
从前有一个嗜酒的人，忽然遇到友人，他的友人是个吝啬的人。嗜酒的人说：“希望到你家和你谈谈心，又口渴又心烦，茶也可以酒也可以，只求解渴罢了。”友人说：“我的家离这很远，不敢劳烦您的腿脚。”嗜酒的人说：“料想只不过二三十里罢了。”友人说：“我家十分简陋，不能委屈了你的尊严。”嗜酒的人说：“只要门开着就可以了。”友人说：“只是没有准备器皿，没有杯具。”嗜酒的人说：“我和你相互熟悉，用瓶子喝也行。”友人说：“暂且等我半天，我拜访完朋友就来叫你一起回去。”嗜酒的人目瞪口呆。
