蹇材望，蜀人，为湖州倅。北兵之将至也，蹇毅然自誓必死，乃作大锡牌，镌其上曰：“大宋忠臣蹇材望。”且以银二笏凿窍，并书其上曰：“有人获吾尸者，望为埋葬，仍见祀，题云‘大宋忠臣蹇材望‘。此银所以为埋瘗之费也。”日系牌与银于腰间，只伺北军临城，则自投水中，且遍祝乡人及常所往来者。人皆怜之。
丙子正月旦日，北军入城，蹇已莫知所之，人皆谓之溺死。既而北装乘骑而归，则知先一日出城迎拜矣，遂得本州同知。乡曲人皆能言之。
蹇材望伪态译文及注释
译文
蹇材望，四川人，是湖州的副知州。元军快要来了，蹇材望自己誓言必死。于是做了一块大锡牌，上面刻着：“大宋的忠臣蹇材望。”而且用两片银片凿出小孔，在上面写到：“得到我尸体的人，希望为我埋葬，还希望为我祭祀，题目为‘大宋忠臣蹇材望’。这银子是用来作为替我埋葬的费用的。”每天把锡牌和银子系在腰间。只等待元军到达湖州城，则自己跳入水中，而且通告每一个乡邻人以及平日往来的人，人人 都同情他。
丙子年正月初一，元军入城，蹇材望已经不知到哪儿去了。人们都说他被淹死了。不久他穿着元军的服装骑马归来，才知道（他）早一天出城迎拜（元军）了，就做了本洲的知府。乡里人都纷纷议论他。

②倅（cuì）：副的，此处指副知州。
③北兵：指元军。
④笏(hù)：愿意为板，这里作“片”解。
⑤仍：还希望。
⑥题云：墓碑上刻写。
⑦瘗(yì)：埋葬。
⑧祝：告。
⑨旦日：初一。
⑩同知：职官名称，知府。
