译文
口渴也不能饮盗泉水，热也不能在丑陋的树木下歇息。恶木也有枝，志士却多苦心。志士整理马车恭敬地遵奉君主之命，驱马将要远行。时势所迫，饥不择食，寒不择栖。时光已经逝去，而功业却还未建立。高耸的云朵接岸而起，树木的枝条随风鸣叫。在幽谷底沉思，在高山顶感慨悲伤。乐器绷紧了的弦发不出缓弱的声音，而节操高尚的人就犹如这急弦，谈论问题常常直言不讳，常常不为君王所喜，不为世俗所容，得不到认可。人生处世真不容易，如何才能放宽我的胸襟呢？眷顾我耿直的情怀，与古人相比真是感到惭愧。
注释
盗泉：水名，在今山东省境内。传说孔子经过盗泉，虽然口渴，但因为厌恶它的名字，没有喝这里的水。
热不息恶木阴：比喻志节高尚的人不愿意被牵连到不良的环境中去，以免影响自己的声誉。恶木，形容难看的树。
整驾：整理马车。
肃时命：恭敬地遵奉君主之命。
杖策：拿着鞭子，指驱马而行。
“饥食”两句：这两句见乐府古辞《猛虎行》，这里反用其意，是说时势所迫，饥不择食，寒不择栖。
岁载阴：岁暮。这里指时光已经逝去，而功业还没建立。
崇：高。
骇：起。
鸣条：树枝被风吹发出声音。静言：沉思。高山岑：高山顶。亮节：节操高尚的人。“人生”两句：人生处世真不容易，如何才能放宽我的胸襟呢？曷，同“何”，怎么。俯仰愧古今：与古人相比感到十分惭愧。俯仰，低头抬头，这里表示思考。古今，古今之人，这里是偏义词，指古人。

陆机（261－303），字士衡，吴郡吴县（今江苏苏州）人，西晋文学家、书法家，孙吴丞相陆逊之孙、大司马陆抗之子，与其弟陆云合称“二陆”。孙吴灭亡后出仕晋朝司马氏政权，曾历任平原内史、祭酒、著作郎等职，世称“陆平原”。后死于“八王之乱”，被夷三族。他“少有奇才，文章冠世”（《晋书·陆机传》），与弟陆云俱为中国西晋时期著名文学家，被誉为“太康之英”。陆机还是一位杰出的书法家，他的《平复帖》是中古代存世最早的名人书法真迹。
