凤翔扶风人，徙居登州宁海，字元宝，号丹阳子。初名从义，字宜甫。海陵王贞元间进士。世宗大定中遇重阳子王哲，从其学道术，与妻孙不二同时出家。后游莱阳，入游仙宫。相传妻孙氏与钰先后仙去。赐号丹阳顺化真人、抱一无为真人、抱一无为普化真君等。
