明广东南海人，字乔仲。嘉靖十四年进士。授御史，上疏言四海困竭，请罢建沙河行宫、金山功德寺。寻引疾归，起官巡按福建。二十四年疏劾严嵩奸贪，比之李林甫、卢杞。下诏狱廷杖除名。家居二十余年。隆庆初复官。万历初为吏部侍郎、南京礼部尚书，为张居正所排，罢。卒谥端恪。有《天山草堂存稿》。
