字丹卿，号颜丞，出身望族，十九岁中秀才，光绪廿八年中举，翌年登进士。选为吏部文选主事。目睹清廷腐败，以祖母病乞归。任江阴劝学所所长，致力于地方教育和实业事业。大力发展城乡教育。辛亥革命参加同盟会，任分部部长。民国十三年，发起成立陶社，刊印江上诗钞、先哲遗书二十馀种。为传承与发展文化作出了贡献。沦陷时期，日伪威胁利诱，主持维持会，均遭其严词拒绝。民国廿八年卒。
