基本解释《尚书大传》卷二：“微子朝周，过殷故墟，见麦秀之蕲蕲兮……曰：此父母之国。乃为《麦秀之歌》，曰：‘麦秀渐渐兮，禾黍油油。彼狡童兮，不我好仇！’”按，《史记 宋微子世家》亦载此事，“微子”作“箕子”。后因以“黍油麦秀”为亡国之痛的感叹。

黍油麦秀的典故
西周灭亡后，周大夫长途跋涉来到西周都城，看到过去的宗庙宫室都成了长满禾黍的田地，触景伤怀作《黍离》诗。后来微子朝见周王时，路过殷墟，看到宫室毁坏，长满禾黍，作《麦秀》歌：“麦秀渐渐兮，禾黍油油。彼狡僮兮，不我好仇。”
