好好先生的典故

刘备投奔荆州牧刘表后，深感要扩大自己的力量，必须得到有智谋的人辅佐。他听说有个名叫司马徽的人，在襄阳地区很有声望，特地去拜访他，请教他对天下大势的看法。就在这次会见中，司马徽向刘备推荐了两个俊杰，一个是诸葛亮，一个是庞统。后来，这两人都成为刘备的重要谋士。司马徽善于识别人才，但由于当时社会斗争相当复杂，他自己却经常装糊涂，从来不说别人的短处，不管是好是歹，他总是回答“好”。日子久了，他也就成为“好好先生”。二天，他在路上碰到一位熟人。那人问他近来身体是否安好。司马徽回答说：“好”。又有一天，他的一位朋友前来拜访，伤心地谈起了自己的儿子死了。不料，司马徽听了竟说：“太好”。他的妻子等朋友走后责备他说：“人家以为你是有德行的人，所以直言相告。哪里有听别人说儿子死了，反而说好的？”司马徽回答说：“好啊，你的话也是太好。”妻子听了，弄得哭笑不得。
