饮鸩止渴的典故

“饮鸩止渴”典出《南朝宋·范晔·后汉书·卷四十八·霍谞传第三十八》：“光衣冠子孙，径路平易，位极州郡，日望征辟，亦无瑕秽纤介之累，无故刊定诏书，欲以何名？就有所疑，当求其便安，岂有触冒死祸，以解细微？譬犹疗饥于附子，止渴于鸩毒，未入肠胃，已绝咽喉，岂可为哉！”

东汉时，有人于大将军梁商之前，诬告霍谞之舅父宋光，私自删改朝廷诏书，光为此而入狱。时年仅十五岁之霍谞上书予商，为光辩白。书曰：“光位极州长，素来奉公守法，无纤介之罪，纵于诏书有所存疑，亦不敢冒死而擅改。犹如人在饥时，以毒草来充饥；而于渴时，饮鸩酒以解渴，甫一沾唇，未入腹中，已告命丧，焉可为哉？”商阅书后，甚觉有理，呈于皇上。未几，光免罪获释。
