竭尽全力的典故

东汉末年，有一个叫杨沛的人，字孔渠，当过新郑长。曹操路过新郑的时候，部队缺粮，杨沛帮助过曹操，因此深得曹操喜爱。曹操辅政以后，杨沛升为长社令。他不畏豪强，不管谁犯了法，都依法惩办，得到曹操的称许。

当时，曹操出征在外，听说国都邺城治安太乱，便发诏选一个邺城令，其入选标准是要有杨沛那样的胆略和水平。选来选去，没有合适的，于是将杨沛提拔为邺城令（当时叫京兆尹）。杨沛上任之前，曹操召见了他，并问他如何治邺。杨沛回答：“我一定竭尽心力，大力宣传法纪，使人人遵纪守法。”曹操听后十分高兴，对左右的人说：“你们听见了没有，这才是使人敬服的人。”杨沛还没正式上任，一些豪强地主和皇亲国戚听说杨沛要来邺城了，都纷纷告诫自己的子弟检点一些。
